Temara Residents Outraged as Garbage Crisis Threatens Public Health

The residents of Temara express their outrage at the proliferation of waste and garbage invading the streets and alleys of several residential neighborhoods, while the city’s municipal council has signed a new delegated management agreement for urban waste collection services with the company "Ozone Temara Pro".
In Temara, local civil society associations fear an "environmental catastrophe". They claim to have addressed complaints to local authorities and the city’s municipal council to alert them "to the imminent danger of an environmental catastrophe due to the accumulation of waste in streets and residential areas, the omnipresence of foul odors, the proliferation of insects and stray dogs, which constitutes a direct threat to the health and safety of citizens," reports Al Akhbar.
The associations accuse the municipal council presided by Zouhair Zemzami of the RNI of "inability to meet the needs of the city, in the absence of a clear development vision in a city facing a marked regression of municipal services". They believe that the environmental situation of the city is only the "reflection of an obvious management failure on the part of the elected council".
Meanwhile, the Temara municipal council, during its last session, signed a new delegated management agreement for urban waste collection services with the company "Ozone Temara Pro". This company is responsible for waste collection, street cleaning, and public spaces for a period of seven years, against an annual fee exceeding 50 million dirhams. Approved on April 8, this agreement includes a commitment to additional investments reaching 70 million dirhams per year from the company. The company also manages this sector in several districts of the capital, Rabat, and in the municipality of Salé.
