Waste Crisis Engulfs Moroccan City: Residents Demand Action as Health Risks Mount

The massive accumulation of waste in the streets and neighborhoods of the commune of Mehdia, in the province of Kénitra, added to the bad odors they emit with the rise in temperatures in the summer, is causing a wave of indignation. The residents are calling for urgent intervention by the local authorities.
The inhabitants of the city are alerting to this worrying environmental situation which increases the risk of the spread of diseases and insects. They are inviting the local authorities to act quickly to find viable solutions to this crisis.
Local sources attribute responsibility for this situation to the company in charge of waste management, which is not fulfilling its contractual commitments. The letters addressed by the municipality to the company concerned, as well as to the prefecture of the province of Kénitra, to denounce these shortcomings, have changed nothing.
For their part, the inhabitants accuse the municipal council of incompetence and negligence in the face of this situation. They are calling on the local authorities to take measures against the company or to seek alternative solutions in order to avoid the repetition of similar situations during the next summer seasons.
