By 2030, the program aims to provide annual capacity for 14 million passengers in Marrakech, five million in Agadir, 3.6 million in Tangier and three million in Fez.
The work includes expanding airport terminals and infrastructure used by aircraft. The program notably includes a new control tower at Marrakech-Menara, the development of 1.5 million square meters of aircraft parking areas and 7.6 kilometers of taxiways, according to details published by the bank when it approved the loan in December 2025.
Jobs and new facilities for travelers
The AfDB expects several thousand jobs to be created in the short term, particularly for young people and women. It also anticipates benefits for tourism, trade and logistics as passenger and freight traffic increases.
In the terminals, the investments will fund automated baggage-handling systems, new security equipment and digital tools designed to make the passenger journey easier.
The agreement was signed by Achraf Tarsim, the AfDB’s representative in Morocco, and Adel El Fakir, director general of ONDA, in the presence of the bank’s president, Sidi Ould Tah, and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui.
