Mentally Ill Man Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of Elderly Mosque Official in Morocco
The muezzin of the mosque in the douar Aghir Aouzmour, under the rural commune of Anfeg, in the province of Sidi Ifni, was fatally stabbed on Friday by a 26-year-old man, apparently mentally ill.
On Friday, the young man snatched the life of the 80-year-old muezzin by stabbing him several times. After an investigation, the gendarmes of the Anfeg region finally arrested the defendant in the douar Id Gassem under Ibder.
The accused was no stranger to mischief in the douar. On Thursday, May 13, Eid al-Fitr day, he had shot down a donkey, which prompted the residents of the town to file a complaint against him with the local authorities and demand his hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital. Without success.
