Memorial Gathering Planned for Marwane Souidi, Young Man Found Dead in Seine-Maritime

Marwane Souidi, of Moroccan origin, was found dead in Seine-Maritime last November. A gathering will be organized this Sunday in Lagny-le-sec (Oise) to pay him a final tribute.

"I don’t know at all how it’s going to go, I had never organized a white march in my life, but if it can comfort my sister, even for a quarter of a second, to see that people have gathered in memory of her son, it’s worth it," Zakia, contacted by telephone by Le Parisien, confides. The gathering will take place this Sunday at 2 p.m., in front of the church of Lagny-le-Sec (Oise), the town where Marwane Souidi grew up. "Many people who couldn’t come to the funeral, it will allow them to say goodbye to him," adds the victim’s aunt.

The body of the 25-year-old man was found on November 24, in Rives-en-Seine, near Rouen (Seine-Maritime), after his disappearance on September 21. According to the autopsy report, he died by strangulation, after suffering "serious and repeated violence". Two suspects were arrested and placed in pre-trial detention, They are being prosecuted for "acts of torture and barbarism" and "murder". One of them, Jérémy B, was a friend of the victim, according to Deputy Prosecutor Frédéric Bernardo. Some witnesses describe him as an "ultra-violent" person.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the causes and circumstances of the murder. In the meantime, Marwane’s family will continue to "fight". "We won’t let go, I don’t want him to be forgotten," Zakia assures, who wants to shed light on the murder of her nephew, who was buried in Morocco. "We couldn’t see him, we couldn’t kiss him, we were faced with a coffin without a window. How can we mourn," she wonders.
