Silent March Honors Marwane Souidi, Found Dead Near Rouen After Two-Month Disappearance

About 150 people marched in silence on Sunday in the streets of Lagny-le-Sec (Oise), to pay a final tribute to Marwane Souidi, found dead on November 24 near Rouen.
The residents of this small town in southern Oise, on the border with Seine-et-Marne, wanted to pay a final tribute to Marwane, who has already been buried in Morocco. This is the whole purpose of this white march that brought together 150 people who came to support the grieving family. "We went to the mosque some time ago, but we had to all get together," confides a friend of Marwane to France 3.
The young man was found dead, two months after his disappearance in September. His loved ones searched for him in vain, before learning of his tragic death. Marwane Souidi would have been violently assaulted and tortured before dying by strangulation, according to the investigation. "It can happen to all of us... His friends, his family didn’t have time to mourn. It was so brutal and so inhumane. So it’s important to accompany them and show them that we’re here," regrets a friend of the family.
Three days after the discovery of Marwane’s lifeless body, two people were indicted for "acts of torture and barbarism" and "murder". About six other people were arrested as part of this case. The family hopes for a successful conclusion to this legal procedure. "For two months, we looked for Marwane, we didn’t have an answer. Now that we have an answer, we don’t want this story to be forgotten," said Zakia Souidi, Marwane’s aunt.
