Massive Homecoming: 3 Million Moroccan Expats Expected for Summer Holidays and Eid al-Adha

As every year, Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) will be very numerous to go to their country of origin. The holidays coincide this year with the Eid al-Adha festival, which will be celebrated around August 12.

Thus, the authorities are counting on the arrival of some 3 million MRE "who will return to their country in the space of two months as part of the ’Marhaba 2019’ operation," said the Moroccan Government Spokesman, Mustapha Khalfi.

"In 2019, three million Moroccans of the World will join their country in two months, the transit operation coinciding this year with the celebration of Eid al-Adha, which will take place in mid-August," the Minister specified, at the end of the Council of Government.

Khalfi also assured that the various concerned authorities, ministerial departments, partner institutions and organizations are mobilized for the success of this transit process, in order to allow Moroccans of the World to benefit from the various services to facilitate their stay in their country of origin.

In addition, the Head of Government, Saad-Eddine El Othmani, is due to address the issue of Moroccans of the World in an intervention next Monday in Parliament. It will undoubtedly be a question of the measures put in place to ensure a good welcome for the MRE, as well as the problems they encounter, here in Morocco, or in their country of residence, when they have to deal with the various Moroccan diplomatic representations.
