Massive Hashish Bust: Spanish-Moroccan Sting Nets 11 Tons

The Spanish police, in collaboration with the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) of Morocco, seized more than 11 tons of hashish during two operations carried out in less than a week in Malaga and Algeciras (Cadiz). Ten individuals involved in this drug trafficking were arrested.

The two operations were supervised by the special anti-drug prosecutor’s office of the Audiencia Nacional and the Campo de Gibraltar, according to the national police in a press release. The seized drugs were hidden inside furniture, false bottoms, and between pallets of melons transported in a van and a semi-trailer. In total, ten men suspected of belonging to a criminal organization and drug trafficking were arrested and detained, reports Europa Press.

These operations follow an investigation that has been ongoing since last July, in collaboration with the Moroccan General Directorate of National Security, which has revealed the existence of a criminal organization that was about to transport hashish from Morocco to Spain via the ports of Tangier and Algeciras. Thus, a refrigerated truck trailer was intercepted in Algeciras, with 9,300 kilos of hashish hidden in pallets of melons inside. The truck was seized and six people were arrested and incarcerated.

A second operation carried out last August led to the arrest of a man driving a van loaded with furniture in which drugs were hidden, from the port of Tangier to Algeciras. The operation resulted in the seizure of 1,825 kilos of hashish, more than 14,000 euros in cash, and eight mobile phones. The vehicle was also seized and four people were arrested and detained.
