Massive Cocaine Bust: Over 1 Ton Seized at Moroccan Port in International Sting
Elements of the prefectural judicial police service in Tangier, in coordination with the national security services of the port of Tangier Med and the Spanish security services, thwarted an international hard drug trafficking operation at the port of Tangier Med.
In total, one ton, 488 kilograms and 80 grams of cocaine were seized as part of this qualitative operation, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement. A cargo of cocaine, consisting of 1,277 cans loaded into a container, was on board a merchant ship flying the flag of a European country, the same source said. Departing from a port in South America, this ship was heading to its final destination in a Turkish port, the DGSN said.
An investigation is underway to uncover all the persons associated with the criminal network involved in the attempted trafficking of this cocaine cargo and to determine the nature of the regional and international intersections and connections.
