Massive Cannabis Bust: 720 kg Seized in High-Speed Chase Near Montauban

Customs agents seized 720 kilos of cannabis resin in a vehicle, a Volkswagen Touareg, abandoned by its occupants who fled after refusing to stop at the Montauban south toll booth (Tarn-et-Garonne), in the night from Saturday to Sunday.
The driver and the passenger(s) of the vehicle fled. The Montauban prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation, led by the Toulouse judicial police, to try to find them, reports La Dépêche. The events took place on Saturday, around 11 pm, when the customs officers of the Montauban south toll booth asked the driver of a Volkswagen Touareg to stop for a routine check. The latter pretended to slow down, then accelerated and continued on his way.
The agents launched a chase on the departmental road 820. A chase that took place over a few kilometers, before the driver abandoned his vehicle in the town of Montbartier (Tarn-et-Garonne) and fled with the passenger(s) of the vehicle. It was when inspecting the interior of the vehicle that the agents discovered the 720 kilos of cannabis resin.
The agents set up a large-scale device to try to find the fugitives in this night. About fifty gendarmes, including a canine team, as well as the helicopter of the Montpellier gendarmerie, were deployed for this purpose. The searches were extended to the communes of Bessens, Montbartier, Campsas... Without success.
