Mass intoxication in Casablanca: more than 50 people hospitalized

A fast food establishment in Casablanca is suspected of being the source of a wave of food poisoning. Many people were admitted to the hospital, some in serious condition.
Since early afternoon, the regional hospital in Médiouna, on the outskirts of the city, has been facing a massive influx of patients showing symptoms of intoxication. More than fifty people were admitted to the emergency room after eating meals at this downtown restaurant.
On site, the medical staff mobilized to care for the patients, some of whom were in serious condition. While some patients were able to return home after receiving initial care, others had to be transferred to the Ibn Rochd University Hospital Center in Casablanca, according to Hespress.
In front of the hospital, the concern was palpable. Families and relatives of the victims gathered to get news, demanding stricter controls on food establishments. "The competent services are not doing their job!" some denounced on social networks, joining consumer associations who have long been calling for strengthened health inspections in restaurants, especially fast food.
The local authorities should announce the opening of an investigation to determine the exact causes of this collective intoxication and establish the responsibilities of the incriminated establishment.
