Marseille Soccer Club in Turmoil: President Longoria Considers Resignation Amid Crisis

Frank McCourt would have managed to convince Pablo Longoria who was considering resigning from the presidency of Olympique de Marseille (OM). The Boston billionaire would have exchanged with the club president on the sidelines of a crisis meeting held Tuesday at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus center.

According to L’Équipe, Marcelino would have announced to his players his departure from OM after the Monday meeting, indicating that he would be replaced by Jean-Pierre Papin for the Thursday match against Ajax Amsterdam. This is not the case, according to La Provence which reports that it was rather Pablo Longoria who would have informed Marcelino of his intention to leave the presidency of the club. The Spanish coach would then have whispered to certain players that he would stop the adventure with Marseille if Longoria were to leave.

During the crisis meeting intended to smooth out any disagreements, Longoria received a phone call from Frank McCourt. The Boston billionaire tried to convince the club president to stay in his position and apparently succeeded, analyzes Foot01. If it is confirmed that Longoria is no longer leaving, neither is Marcelino, comments La Provence. The Spanish coach is determined to raise the level of the team and get good results. "For him, there is no reason to leave from a sporting point of view. He is waiting for decisions to be made at the head of the club," confides a source close to Marcelino.

Eurosport Spain had announced Longoria’s resignation on Monday. The crisis meeting held Tuesday at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus center has many surprises in store. According to some sources, Longoria should keep his position, but give in to pressure and fire Marcelino who would no longer be able to bring added value at the head of the team. The future of OM is at stake.
