Marrakech Tourism Rebounds as International Flights Resume

Tourism activity is gradually resuming in Marrakech, after months of cessation due to the health crisis. The city is welcoming more and more tourists since the reopening, in mid-July, of air borders and the resumption of international flights.
The resumption of tourism activity is evolving at a good pace in Marrakech, to the great satisfaction of professionals in the sector. "We are receiving about 4,000 passengers per day since the resumption of flights on June 15, and we hope that this number will increase gradually, as other airlines will resume their flights to and from Marrakech," said Zakaria Harti, director of operations at Marrakech Menara Airport.

"We are currently experiencing the beginning of the recovery of the tourism sector. And the activities directly related to it, such as air transport, road transport, restaurants, hotels, guest houses, car rental and travel agencies, are all booming. So all those who worked for tourism and were suffering, now have a little hope," added Zoubir Bouhoute, an employee of the Marrakech tourist office.

Travelers from certain countries considered at risk are still subject to quarantine, while for the vast majority, a vaccination certificate or a negative PCR test is simply required, reports Bruxelles News. "I came from London, I received my two doses of vaccine and I didn’t need anything else. I just have to show them my vaccination certificate. It was very encouraging for us to come to Marrakech," testifies an Algerian tourist residing in London.
Tourism contributes 7% to Morocco’s GDP. For a full resumption of activities, some wish that the restrictive measures be further eased.
