Marrakech Ranks Among Top 50 Green Cities for Sustainable Tourism

Marrakech is making efforts to protect its environment in order to better sell itself to tourists. In this regard, it is among the top 50 green cities where it is nice to live and travel according to the latest ranking of "Tourlane", the online specialist for custom dream trips.
The merits of the ochre city are recognized internationally. Marrakech is now distinguished among cities committed to ecology that are increasingly concerned with environmental protection and have implemented a new sustainable public policy. In the Arab world and North Africa, the city has established itself as the leading green city.
According to the Vice-President of the Marrakech City Council, Ahmed El Moutassadek, this ranking crowns the tireless efforts made by the local authorities and the elected councils, as well as all the other stakeholders, to make this city a model in terms of environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable practices.
According to him, this recognition of the efforts is a source of pride for all the inhabitants of the ochre city, the tourist city with international influence, which also has a rich tangible and intangible heritage. The Vice-President also recalled that COP22 served as a catalyst for more actions and ambitions in favor of environmental protection at the level of the ochre city.
Among the criteria taken into account in the ranking of green cities are the accessibility of cities by train, the public transport infrastructure, the number of cars per inhabitant, green spaces, the number of tourists per inhabitant, air quality, renewable energies and recycling facilities in place in the 50 destinations.
