Marrakech Police Launch Crackdown on Crime with New Security Plan

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) intends to wage a relentless fight against crime in all its forms in Marrakech.
A security action plan will be implemented on a daily basis by the prefecture of police of the ochre city to ensure the safety of people and property, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, specifying that the objective of this knockout operation is to fight against crime and delinquency in all its forms.
The police headquarters bases its action on anticipation, mobilization and awareness-raising, indicate sources in the daily newspaper. Thus, surveillance and control points will be installed in all neighborhoods of Marrakech to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors. All human, digital and logistical resources have been made available to the units to carry out this operation.
As part of this action plan, the authorities also intend to strengthen their communication with civil society actors and local media. Awareness and public information campaigns should be initiated to reassure residents and tourists that their safety is guaranteed.
Insecurity is growing in Marrakech. Between January 1 and mid-April, some 1,521 individuals were prosecuted for ordinary thefts, motorcycle and bicycle thefts, or thefts with violence, the same sources report, adding that a suspected drug trafficker was recently arrested during an operation that led to the seizure of large quantities of drugs.
