Marrakech Cracks Down on Illegal Taxis: Hundreds of Licenses Revoked

The services of the Ministry of the Interior are waging a relentless fight against illegal taxis in Marrakech. Between January 2023 and February 2024, some 317 licenses were withdrawn from taxi drivers who were not in order.
The information was revealed by the Minister of the Interior, in response to a question from the Haraki group in the House of Representatives. Abdelouafi Laftit specified that his competent services also proceeded to temporarily withdraw 15 licenses during the period. The drivers concerned are being prosecuted in court and await to be informed of their fate.
The central and territorial services of the Ministry of the Interior "attach particular importance to the organization and control of the taxi sector, with measures and procedures having been adopted according to an integrated and participatory action plan," assured Laftit, who renewed the government’s commitment to strengthen controls and sanction offenders if necessary in order to put an end to violations of the laws and regulations in force.
