Marrakech Police Debunk False Rumors of Attacks on Medical Workers

The information disseminated on social networks stating that a criminal network targeting medical staff and nurses during the health emergency state has been dismantled in Marrakech, is unfounded.

No criminal network targeting nurses and medical staff on their way out of work has been dismantled by the elements of the prefectural security service in Marrakech. The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) was categorical. It brushed aside these allegations, which are likely to create a feeling of insecurity and psychosis among these citizens who are investing every day in the fight against the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

The DGSN specified that no medical staff or nurse was among the victims of the individual suspected of theft who was arrested by the elements of the Marrakech security prefecture. The latter was moreover placed in custody for the needs of the investigation.

The false information circulated on social networks states that a network of criminals is attacking medical staff and nurses by wearing protective masks and glasses, in order not to be identified. Moreover, these acts would have been perpetrated during this state of emergency. While rejecting these allegations, the DGSN, through a press release, said that a judicial investigation had been opened on this subject.

This investigation will be conducted under the supervision of the Marrakech prosecutor’s office. It will make it possible to identify and arrest the perpetrators and accomplices of the dissemination of this false information, which undermines public safety.
