Marrakech PJD Official Arrested for Operating Shisha Cafe During Health Emergency

The gendarmerie services of Tassoultante arrested and placed in custody an elected official of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), owner of a shisha cafe in the El Hena district of Marrakech, for violating the state of health emergency.
Legal troubles for a PJD councilor in the commune of Tassoultante, owner of a cafe in the El Hena district. During a raid on the premises around 9 pm, the Tassoultante gendarmerie elements arrested him, reports Assabah. Several dozen customers as well. The elected official was placed in custody overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in a Marrakech police station for violating the state of health emergency.
This operation follows numerous complaints filed by neighbors with the local authorities and the gendarmerie. The caïd of the Chrifia district, his close collaborators and the Tassoultante gendarmerie services coordinated the operation. They caught the people present in the bar smoking shisha and drinking coffee and other beverages.
The gendarmes seized the equipment. The cafe was sealed. Taken to the Marrakech police station, the customers were released after paying a fine of 300 DH each. The PJD municipal councilor, the cafe manager and two waiters were not so lucky. Their custody was maintained.
