Casablanca Officials Arrested for Violating COVID Curfew in Cafe

Two auxiliary authorities and customers were arrested by the police while they were in a cafe in Casablanca during the curfew. They were brought, along with the cafe owner, before the public prosecutor’s office.
The two auxiliaries were arrested in a cafe in Médiouna, Casablanca, where they were being served during the curfew, reports the daily Assabah. When they were apprehended, the two agents tried to negotiate with the law enforcement officers to avoid any sanctions against them and the customers present and the cafe owner. But the police officers, tasked with enforcing the state of emergency, simply made them understand that they had violated the law and proceeded to arrest them as well as all the people who were in the cafe. They were then brought before the public prosecutor’s office, which decided to prosecute them at large. But for having violated the curfew, they are required to pay a fine of 300 dirhams.
In recent days, the security forces, having found that some cafe owners were opening during the curfew, have stepped up their patrols.
The food service professionals, hard hit by the health crisis since March 2020, were hoping to earn a little income during the month of Ramadan to make up for their losses. But with the implementation of the curfew starting at 8 p.m., their hopes were dashed.
