Marrakech’s Jemaa el-Fna Square: Henna Artists’ Aggressive Tactics Alarm Tourists

In Marrakech, both domestic and foreign tourists sometimes suffer from offensive behavior (harassment, fraud, scams) from the henna tattoo artists installed on the famous Jemaa el-Fna square.
The henna tattoo artists in Marrakech are ready to do anything to attract tourists visiting the city. While some can be very insistent, others do not hesitate to hurl insults and come to blows over clients. Behaviors that damage the image of the ochre city, a favorite destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
Many victims do not fail to denounce these bad practices on social networks, describing Marrakech as a "place of fraud and scams". For some local actors, the rude behavior of the henna tattoo artists towards tourists is explained by the lack of training of these women and the laxity of the local authorities in the face of the situation, writes the local site kech24.
To limit these practices, local actors call on the authorities to organize training sessions for the henna tattoo artists in order to help them improve their way of approaching clients, as well as their communication with them, to preserve the good reputation of the Jemaa el-Fna square and the ochre city in general.
