Marrakech Hotels Slash Prices to Attract Domestic Tourists Amid Pandemic

As they await the arrival of foreign tourists, tourism professionals in Morocco are working to encourage domestic tourism. In Marrakech, hotel promoters are offering unprecedented offers and rates to try to save this tourism season that has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
To face this unprecedented tourism season due to the coronavirus pandemic, hotel establishments are innovating by offering exceptional rates and offers, reports 2m.ma. For the first time, luxury suites are being offered at prices that defy all competition.
According to Abdelali Chaoui, the owner of a hotel establishment, unprecedented rates are being offered to families. "For example, booking a 5-star 48 m² suite for 5 people would only cost 1,200 dirhams and would give them access to all the facilities. This has never been seen in this hotel space," he specified.
In addition to the exceptional offers to attract the local clientele, health safety measures are also being put in place in the large hotels in Marrakech. This includes signage stickers to remind people to respect barrier gestures, distance and safety. For Hicham Amchi, head of catering in one of these large hotels, a particular emphasis has always been placed on hygiene. "But this health crisis context forces us to be even more vigilant. We are required to wear masks all day long and maintain the safety distance," he added.
Moreover, the same measures are applied in the guest houses in Marrakech which want to preserve the health of customers and employees. "Foreigners would do well to come and discover the regions. It’s very beautiful. We need to encourage domestic tourism," estimates one of the employees of these guest houses. As for Rachida El Menii, director of a guest house, the tourist season has gradually started in Marrakech. "We are counting a lot on national tourism," she said.
For now, only Marrakech residents can book, since the city is still classified in the category 2 confinement zone.
