Morocco Tourism Hit Hard as Travel Ban Forces Hotel Closures in Marrakech

The decision banning travel to and from eight Moroccan cities is already having a negative impact on the tourist season in Marrakech.
A major blow for several hoteliers who are already closing their doors and are just waiting for the borders to reopen to do so. In Marrakech, clients staying in the various hotels have packed their bags and are demanding refunds for their stay, reports L’Économiste. For example, more than 100 tourists have cut short their stay in a hotel in just one night. The establishment has decided to close its doors until August 6. Vacationers have also hastened their departure from other hotels.
Another observation: the reservation services of all Marrakech hotels have recorded requests to cancel stays planned for next weekend and in August. The same is true in Agadir, Essaouira, and Mazagan in El Jadida. A difficult situation for hotels that were counting on the summer season to get back on their feet financially after more than three months of inactivity due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
