Marrakech Launches Fast-Food Inspections After Deadly Food Poisoning Outbreak

The Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region ordered inspections of fast-food restaurants following a collective food poisoning incident in a snack bar.
Complying with the instructions of the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, the local authorities, in coordination with the Municipal Health Office and the Auxiliary Forces, have launched a campaign to inspect fast-food restaurants in the Gueliz district of Marrakech.
This campaign follows a food poisoning incident. Three people died last week after eating a meal in a snack bar in Mhamid, in the Menara district of Marrakech, while 26 others suffered from food poisoning. The latter were urgently transported to the Mohammed VI University Hospital to receive the necessary medical care.
Arrested and then taken to the police headquarters for questioning under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, the owner of the snack bar will have to answer the charges of endangering the lives of others and involuntary manslaughter.
