Marco van Basten Urges Chelsea's Hakim Ziyech to Seek Transfer Amid Limited Playing Time

The uncomfortable situation that Hakim Zyech has been experiencing at Chelsea since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at the helm of the club has not escaped the former Oranje coach. While the German technician seems finally convinced of the importance of the Moroccan player, Marco Van Basten has spoken at length on the subject, inviting Ziyech to spread his wings elsewhere than at Chelsea.

In an interview with the Dutch sports channel Ziggo Sport, the former Dutch star considers the situation of the Atlas Lion "sad". According to him, the Moroccan player evolves at Chelsea in a system that does not suit him. Having coached Hakim Ziyech at Sportclub Heerenveen, Marco Van Basten knows his potential well and simply suggests that he change clubs.

Three-time Ballon d’Or (1988, 1989 and 1992), Van Basten is surprised by the use made of the Moroccan international by Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel. He does not understand why Ziyech, the hero of the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, only played 20 minutes last Saturday against West Ham, in a Premier League match. "He’s on the bench again. And when he comes in, he plays as a striker or something like that. That’s possible too because he’s just a good player. But I find it sad to see," lamented Van Basten, who was very critical of the German coach. "The system this coach is playing is just not good for Ziyech. So, like Ziyech, you have to say: you know what, I’m going to look elsewhere."

The former Dutch international is an admirer of the Moroccan player and closely follows his professional career. In 2019, he had already invited Hakim Ziyech to put his talent at the service of a major European club like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur or another in England. The important thing for him is that the player can be part of a club that recognizes his potential while helping him develop further.
