Manchester United Secures Amrabat Loan Deal Despite Last-Minute Medical Concern

After several weeks of discussions, Manchester United managed to acquire the Moroccan midfielder from Fiorentina Sofyan Amrabat on the last day of the summer transfer window. But the medical examination could have derailed this last-minute transfer.

Sofyan Amrabat joined Manchester United on loan from ACF Fiorentina until June 2024 for a fee of 10 million euros with a purchase option. An agreement concluded by Matt Hargreaves, the club’s negotiation manager, who traveled to Florence by private jet at the end of the summer transfer window. Due to the urgency, the Moroccan midfielder had to undergo his medical examination in Italy, during which the staff detected a back problem, reports The Athletic. A problem for which he had received painkilling injections in December during Morocco’s qualification for the 2022 Qatar World Cup quarter-finals. Nothing to worry about. The back pain was deemed not serious enough to block his transfer to the UK.

Sofyan is happy to join the Red Devils squad. "It is a great honor to become a Manchester United player. I had to be patient to reach this moment, but I am someone who always listens to my heart and I now represent the club of my dreams," he said after his transfer. A passionate player, he is committed to bringing this energy to the team and doing his utmost in every action he takes for the club.

The 27-year-old player is very optimistic: "I know exactly how Erik ten Hag likes to work and what he expects from his players. His coaching and advice have helped me develop my player abilities early in my career. I know he will help me give my best so that I can help the group succeed this season."
