Major Strike to Ground Flights from Belgium, Impacting Morocco Routes

The general strike on March 31 will have a major impact on air traffic in Belgium, particularly at the airports of Charleroi and Zaventem (Brussels Airport). Numerous flight cancellations are announced, especially to Morocco.

At Brussels Airport, no passenger flights will take off on March 31. The decision, taken to "guarantee the safety of passengers and staff, and to avoid long queues," follows the announcement of a strike affecting security personnel and ground handlers. Jeffrey Franssens, a spokesperson, indicated that "this concerns 244 departing flights." Arriving flights will be maintained, but disruptions are to be expected.

Brussels Airport is asking travelers not to go to the airport that day and to contact their airline for a postponement or refund. Cancellations will be posted on the airport’s website after registration by the airlines.

Brussels Airlines, impacted by this situation, has been informed that no outbound flights will be possible on March 31 (only non-connecting arriving flights will be maintained). The airline had anticipated by offering rebooking or refund options, already used by more than 60% of the passengers concerned. It expresses its regrets for the inconvenience.

Charleroi airport will be completely shut down: all flights (departures and arrivals) are canceled. Passengers will be contacted by their airline for a postponement or refund. The airport apologizes for the inconvenience.

It is therefore strongly recommended that travelers check the status of their flight and anticipate significant disruptions if they are transiting through Belgium on March 31.
