National Strike in Belgium Disrupts Flights, Impacts Morocco Routes from Charleroi Airport

In Belgium, flights departing from Charleroi will all be cancelled due to a new day of national strike. Flights to Morocco could be affected by these movements.

New strike, new flight cancellations. The activity at Charleroi airport is expected to experience disruptions on Tuesday, April 29. The company managing the airport anticipated disruptions, before announcing on Friday, April 25, 2025, in the late afternoon, the cancellation of all flights due to insufficient staff. Airlines operating routes between Charleroi and Morocco and other destinations are thus forced to cancel their flights. For now, incoming flights are maintained. "Passengers who were supposed to fly via Charleroi next Tuesday will be contacted by their airline for a new booking or a refund," says Charleroi airport.

Since January 2015, social movements have at times paralyzed Charleroi airport. The first strike movement was triggered on January 13, the second a month later, the third on March 31, and the fourth on April 29. "The choice of date is not random. On that day, a strike in public transport was already planned. It had then rallied all public services, concerned particularly about measures that will affect the calculation of the amount and age of their retirement," remind our colleagues from RTBF.

They estimate: "A few days before May 1st, it will be an opportunity for unions to send a strong signal to governments and politicians to show that mobilization is real in both the north and south of the country and that it is not weakening."
