General Strike Disrupts Air Travel from Brussels, Canceling Flights to Morocco

A general strike, initiated by the FGTB and CSC unions to protest against government projects, will cause major disruptions to air traffic at Brussels-Zaventem airport this Monday, March 31. Attention, therefore, if you plan to take a flight to Morocco.
The Brussels Airlines company has already announced the cancellation of the vast majority of its operations for this day, including flights to Morocco.
According to a spokesperson for the company, of the approximately 200 routes initially scheduled by Brussels Airlines, all outbound flights will be canceled. Only about ten return flights, mainly intra-European routes (Germany, Italy, Spain), will be maintained. This represents a drastic reduction compared to a normal day, when the company operates about a hundred outbound and as many return flights.
This decision by Brussels Airlines follows the announcement by Brussels Airport (Brussels Airport) of the cancellation of almost all scheduled flights on Monday. The airport authorities justified this measure by the expected participation of a large number of handling and security personnel in the strike movement. The cancellation of the 244 outbound flights aims to ensure the safety of people present on the site and to avoid major operational difficulties, including long waits.
Passengers of Brussels Airlines affected by these cancellations had been informed as early as last week of the possibility of rescheduling their flight or requesting a refund.
Other airlines operating at Zaventem are also looking for solutions. TUI fly, for example, offers its customers the possibility of using airports located in neighboring countries for their scheduled departures on Monday.
