Major Power Outage Hits Moroccan Cities Rabat and Temara, Investigation Launched

Wednesday 29 March 2023, by Ginette

A major power outage has affected parts of the cities of Rabat and Temara, following a fire that broke out in an electrical substation. In order to understand the reasons for this power cut and to implement the necessary measures, an investigation has been opened by the competent authorities.

The residents of the two cities were confronted with a difficult situation last night, when the largest power outage in recent decades struck many areas. Families were forced to break their fast in the dark, lit only by the faint glow of candles. For football fans, the evening also proved disappointing, with the inability to watch the friendly match between Morocco and Peru due to the power outage.

In addition to households and businesses, the power outage also affected public institutions and the mobile phone network in Rabat and Témara. In a brief statement on social media, Redal, the electricity supplier in the region, indicated that the power outage was recorded following a "major incident" involving a transformer.

The night was long for many residents of the city, who spent hours in the dark. This morning, the situation remained unchanged in some areas, particularly those affected by the Guich Loudaya transformer station outage. The authorities have launched an investigation to determine the reasons for this outage and restore electricity as soon as possible.
