Long awaited for months, Marrakech’s first electric buses finally leave Korea
The first two electric buses from a new fleet of 15 vehicles destined for Marrakech have been completed in South Korea. The fleet is expected to arrive in Morocco by the first quarter of 2027.
The delivery of Marrakech’s new electric buses is entering its concrete phase. Hyundai Motor held a ceremony in South Korea on Monday, September 21, marking the completion and departure of the first two vehicles.
These buses belong to a fleet of 15 Hyundai Elec City vehicles supplied to Marrakech with the support of the Korean International Cooperation Agency, KOICA. They are the first electric buses manufactured in South Korea to be delivered to Morocco, Yonhap specifies.
The vehicles are to be assigned to urban routes serving, in particular, Marrakech’s main tourist districts. Their entry into service is intended to help meet transport demand while reducing air pollution in the city center.

The buses had been awaited for several months. They are part of Marrakech’s network renewal program, which covers 349 vehicles, including 15 electric models.
The 15 buses expected in early 2027
The first two Elec City buses are now ready to be shipped. Hyundai still has to complete the manufacture of the other thirteen vehicles before delivering the entire fleet to Marrakech.
The schedule announced by the manufacturer provides for the arrival of the 15 buses and a handover ceremony in Morocco in the first quarter of 2027. Hyundai Motor Group confirms that production and shipping operations are continuing.
The project is not limited to the vehicles. KOICA will also provide fast-charging equipment and organize training in Morocco. Technical cooperation is expected to enable local teams to operate the buses and ensure their maintenance.

This operation falls under a public development assistance program led by KOICA with the city of Marrakech. It also marks Hyundai’s arrival on the Moroccan electric bus market.
Marrakech is nevertheless not new to this field: the city had already put electric buses into service in 2017. The novelty this time lies in the arrival of a complete South Korean fleet, accompanied by its chargers and a training program.
