King Mohammed VI Sparks Investigation into Illegal Real Estate Project in Northern Morocco

Two walis and a governor accused of having violated the regulations on urban planning in the context of the implementation of a real estate project in Fnideq were heard on Monday, August 10, at the Ministry of the Interior. A new anger of King Mohammed VI prompted the opening of this investigation.

During a visit to the region, King Mohammed VI had found that this real estate project was being implemented in flagrant violation of urban planning law. The constructions did not comply with the standards required by the regulations. An investigation was opened following these findings.

This investigation would target the officials of the Urban Agency, the current wali of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Mohamed Mhidia, his predecessor Mohamed Yacoubi, the governor of the prefecture of M’diq-Fnideq Yassine Jari as well as other local officials, reports Assabah.

It was in this context that a commission from the Ministry of the Interior heard, last Monday, the wali Mohamed Mhidia and the governor of the prefecture of M’diq-Fnideq. On the agenda: the so-called "Fnideq Gardens" housing estate, the plans of which have been illegally modified.

The same commission had already conducted investigations on this same housing estate, based on the data provided by Mohamed Yacoubi, the former wali of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region. The purpose is to shed light on this case, identify the responsibilities and impose the appropriate sanctions.
