King Mohammed VI’s Call Prompts Shake-Up: Top Tax Official Omar Faraj Resigns

The call of King Mohammed VI, made during his speech on July 29, on the occasion of the Throne Feast, has apparently been heard. Omar Faraj, who requested to be relieved of his duties as Director General of Taxes, has indeed been forced to resign in favor of a younger executive.
Even though he is allowed to retire, Omar Faraj’s resignation is seen as the tree that hides the forest. According to Maghreb-intelligence, this senior civil servant has been forced to resign to make way for another, younger executive whose name will be known in the coming days.
According to the same source, the public administration will vibrate to the rhythm of a purge, which has only just begun. Several other strategic positions within major public institutions will indeed change hands.
Similarly, the officials who hold high positions in ministerial departments such as secretaries general, inspectors general and directors will not be spared. The senior officials of the decentralized services at the level of the 12 regions of the country are also concerned.
King Mohammed VI’s call for a cabinet reshuffle and the promotion of young executives to high positions is thus taking shape. For his part, Saâdeddine El Othmani is only waiting for the royal palace to make public the list of the new members of his Government.
