Moroccan Political Leader Ilyas El Omari Resigns from Regional Presidency

The presidency of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region will have to change hands in the coming days. Indeed, as could be expected for some time, Ilyas El Omari, former Secretary General (SG) of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), presented, on Saturday, September 28, in the morning, his resignation.
In reality, many PAM cadres had been sniffing out for some time the resignation of the President of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, which makes Le360 say that the resignation of Ilyas El Omari, once a strongman of the PAM, did not surprise many people.
The same media claims to have contacted, through its local correspondent, a source within the Regional Council. This one would have confirmed that Ilyas El Omari deposited his resignation which he transmitted to the Wali of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region.
El Omari’s departure is justified by "an attempt to flee forward." In office since 2015, the former PAM SG would have found himself facing an unprecedented "revolt" and would have become completely isolated.
"He knew full well that they were about to dismiss him. The members of the Council boycotted the meetings he called and had closed all doors to him," the media learned.
Among the facts blamed on Ilyas El Omari is his inability to fulfill his commitments regarding major projects, including "Tanger Tech" to which colossal sums have been devoted.
"A failure that reflects his poor management" and led him to "leave on tiptoe," reports Le360.
According to the same source, these are as many shortcomings that Mohamed Mhidia, Wali of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region and Governor of the prefecture of Tanger-Assilah, was about to submit to the Administrative Court, to rule on the violations, in terms of management in the region.
