Kénitra Secures 138 New Buses in 310 Million Dirham Transport Overhaul

The municipality of Kénitra has finally found a solution to its bus transport crisis, after a long conflict with Karama Bus, the delegatee of this service for nearly a decade. It is the Foughal company that becomes the new operator.
An envelope of 130 million dirhams will be mobilized to contribute to the financing of half of the investment needed to acquire the 138 buses expected. For its part, Foughal will have to carry out an investment program amounting to 310 million dirhams and integrate all the personnel employed by the outgoing delegatee.
The delegated management contract was adopted by the elected officials during an extraordinary session of the city council held last week. However, "after the adoption of the contract by the elected officials, it will have to be validated by the Ministry of the Interior," worries Rachid Belamkissia, first vice-president of the municipality of Kénitra.
"The new operator also needs time for the order and mobilization of the bus fleet provided for in the contract, which should reach 138 vehicles next July," he adds. Meanwhile, "we are considering the possibility of temporarily using around a hundred buses borrowed from the city of Casablanca," says the municipal official.
"Like Rabat and Casablanca, the municipality of Kénitra and the region will contribute to the financing of the acquisition of the bus fleet, with the participation of the Ministry of the Interior," announces Rachid Belamkissia. Moreover, a convention to this effect was also adopted by the elected officials during the extraordinary session of the Kénitra city council.
