Italian Owner Battles to Evict Squatters from Multimillion-Euro Belgian Property

While he has put his multi-million euro property up for sale, an Italian is surprised to learn that a group of people are occupying it. Faced with the police’s inability to make them leave, he is launching legal proceedings to evict the squatters.
It all starts with an observation made by a resident of Uccle. A property worth several million euros in her municipality is occupied by a group of people. Naelle reports the facts to RTL via her orange Alertez-nous button. "The police tried to carry out the eviction unsuccessfully. An absurd situation that once again shows the administrative heaviness," she reacts. Information confirmed by the mayor of Uccle. Arriving on the scene with the social services, he says he met the squatters. According to his explanations, there are about thirty people, Moldovan families. Among these squatters, there are economic refugees who came to Belgium following the war in Ukraine (Moldova shares a border with the country). There are also people with an order to leave the territory.
The elected official will ensure that no incident has been reported. The occupants would also be very respectful of the premises. "The police have been informed and will conduct daily patrols to ensure that everything is going well and to reassure the neighborhood," he adds. Not enough to reassure the owner of the house. From Morocco where he lives, the Italian "would have initiated legal proceedings to achieve the eviction of the squatters." A step to take in case of illegal occupation of a property. If there was a case of flagrante delicto or risks to the human person (danger, aggression or fire), the police could intervene to dislodge the squatters.
