Italian Mother Reunites with Son in Morocco After 6-Year Abduction by Father

An Italian national was exceptionally able to see her son again, 6 years after his disappearance. The child had been kidnapped by his father who had returned permanently to Morocco.
If this was made possible, it is thanks to the mediation of the Italian and Moroccan authorities who allowed the mother to see her son last week, within the Italian consulate in Casablanca.
Of Moroccan origin, her ex-husband had left without a word before disappearing with the child who was then 4 years old. At the time, he had not told her his destination.
A complaint filed with the Italian authorities made it possible to locate the child and his father in Morocco, after several years of searching. However, he did not authorize the mother to see her son.
According to the Italian media, it took the pressure of the Moroccan authorities for an appointment to be arranged at the Italian Consulate in Casablanca. Despite these very short reunions, the mother’s fight continues.
