US Issues Security Alert for Americans in Morocco Amid Middle East Tensions

In a security alert message published on the website of the US Embassy in Rabat, the United States calls on American citizens in Morocco to be vigilant due to recent events related to the standoff between the USA and Iran.
"Due to increased tensions in Iraq and the region, the US Embassy in Rabat and the US Consulate General in Casablanca strongly encourage American citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance and to be well-informed of the situation," the security alert message states.
In this regard, the diplomatic representation has indicated the course of action to be taken. "Although we are not aware of any specific and credible threats against American citizens in Morocco at the moment, travelers to and in Morocco, as well as in other countries in the region, are encouraged to register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to benefit from security and to be more easily located in case of an emergency," the same source specifies.
On January 3, 2020, the United States carried out a raid in Baghdad, resulting in the death of two pro-Iranian leaders in Iraq, including the powerful General Qassem Soleimani. Since then, the US-Iran standoff has resumed with renewed vigor.
