US Embassy Warns Americans in Morocco as COVID-19 Restrictions Tighten

The U.S. Embassy in Rabat has alerted Americans to the spread of the coronavirus in Morocco. It calls on them to reconsider their travel plans in light of the epidemiological situation.

In a statement, the embassy reminded Americans that the state of health emergency is still in effect in Morocco in order to limit the spread of Covid-19. The kingdom’s restrictive measures include border closures, flight suspensions and a curfew.

The embassy also reminded American citizens of Morocco’s recent decision to suspend air links with Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands and South Africa, etc. Citing the State Department, it urged American citizens to "reconsider travel to Morocco due to Covid-19." The embassy also called on American citizens to carefully examine "the rapidly evolving global travel landscape and any potential disruptions they may face."

Since January 26, American citizens and permanent residents wishing to travel to the United States have been required to present a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before departure.

As of February 28, the Covid-19 report shows 483,654 cases of contamination, 469,046 recoveries and 8,623 deaths.
