Interior Ministry Official Among 7 Arrested in Rabat Government Office Theft Ring

Seven people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the thefts committed at the headquarters of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region. These arrests follow investigations conducted by the judicial police of Rabat.

In May, computers, mobile phones, administrative stamps and office supplies were stolen from the headquarters of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra regional council. After several weeks of investigation, the police finally apprehended the people involved in this series of thefts, reports the daily Al Akhbar.

Faced with the repeated thefts, the former president of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra regional council, Abdessamad Sekkal, had filed a complaint, following which the judicial police of Rabat opened an investigation. At the time, the police had lifted fingerprints from the scene and seized the surveillance camera recordings installed at the administrative headquarters of the region.

With these elements and the help of an administrative member, the main suspect was identified. It is the security guard of the regional headquarters, who acted with the complicity of two other people, including a civil servant from the Ministry of the Interior assigned to the regional administration. This core group then handed over the stolen items to other individuals for fencing at the Bab El Had flea market in Rabat.

All the arrested persons were referred to the competent prosecutor’s office during the past week.
