Inmate with Mental Health Issues Dies by Suicide in Casablanca Prison

A man incarcerated in the Ain Sebaa prison in Casablanca committed suicide. According to the authorities, he suffered from mental disorders.
In a statement, the prison administration recalled that this was an inmate of the local Ain Sebaa 1 prison, convicted under the anti-terrorism law. He committed suicide after wrapping part of his clothes around his neck and attaching the other part to the grill of the window of the room where he was staying in the health center of the institution.
For the prison administration, the deceased suffered from mental and psychological disorders and was under medical supervision. He also benefited from 59 medical consultations within the prison and 15 others in an external hospital, the last of which was on April 30, 2020.
Placed in a room at the multidisciplinary health center, the deceased was under continuous medical supervision. According to the same source, the competent prosecutor’s office and the family of the deceased prisoner were informed in accordance with the law organizing penitentiary establishments.
