Terrorism Suspect on Death Row Dies by Suicide in Moroccan Prison

Incarcerated in the local Toulal 2 prison as part of a case related to terrorism, an inmate committed suicide by hanging on Saturday morning, according to the prison administration.
"The prisoner A.R, detained in this establishment under the law relating to the fight against extremism and terrorism, and sentenced to death, committed suicide on Saturday morning by hanging with a piece of fabric that he attached to the window of his cell," the statement explains.
The penitentiary institution points out that the detainee "suffered from mental and psychological disorders, and was undergoing treatment inside the establishment as well as in the hospital outside the prison."
After he was found hanged in his cell, the guards and medical staff of the prison intervened to rescue him, but unfortunately he died before being transferred to the hospital, the statement said, adding that after the death was noted, the competent prosecutor’s office and the detainee’s family were informed.
