Iconic Marrakech Hotel La Mamounia Undergoes Major Renovation, Partners with Michelin-Starred Chef

A vast renovation project is announced for the luxury hotel complex, La Mamounia, in Marrakech, in preparation for its next opening.

Built on an area of more than 2,000 m², La Mamounia has more than 200 rooms, suites and riads, with private pools, as well as four restaurants of various specialties.

Pierre Jochem, general manager of this 5-star hotel since September 1, 2013, is well preparing for the resumption of activities. To this end, he has called on the French Michelin-starred chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, to whom 39 restaurants around the world owe their success. At La Mamounia, the chef will oversee the creation of two new restaurant concepts: one of Italian tradition, the other inspired by the culinary culture of Southeast Asia, reports la Tribune.

For the boss of the premises, a career manager who has honed his skills in luxury hospitality around the world, a "hotel must constantly continue to innovate and ensure that it lives with its time". A year ago, this palace hotel was named the best urban hotel in the world in 2018 at the Traveler Awards of the luxury magazine. This distinction has helped to place Africa at the top of the global hotel industry, it is indicated.

Under the operational management of the French architect, Jacques Garcia, the last renovation work dates back to 2009. This new renovation of La Mamounia could probably propel the Marrakech hotel complex to other levels of international recognition. Furthermore, the privatization of this public property has been considered since last year.
