EU Hosts Gender Equality Workshop in Tangier Ahead of International Women's Day

The European Union in Morocco organized a capitalization and priority-setting workshop on equality in Tangier on March 5 and 6. This workshop was organized as a prelude to International Women’s Rights Day.

Organized as part of the Moucharaka Mouwatina civil society support program, this workshop brought together for two days about fifty participants representing civil society, the local authorities of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the European Union and the partners of the "Moucharaka Mouwatina" program.

The objective is to define the priorities in the field and the modalities of future support to civil society. In this context, the participants took stock of the support for civil society in the field of equality. The themes addressed the fight against violence against women, the strengthening of women’s political participation, the promotion of economic empowerment and female entrepreneurship, as well as the fight against gender stereotypes.

It should be noted that the Moucharaka Mouwatina program, financed by the European Union to the tune of more than 13 million euros for the period 2018-2020, "aims to strengthen the effective contribution of Moroccan civil society organizations to the consolidation of the rule of law, democratization and socio-economic development of the country". More specifically, the program aims to "improve the institutional and legal environment of Moroccan civil society organizations and promote their involvement in the definition, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of public policies," the same source said.
