EU Provides $200,000 to Combat COVID-19 in Moroccan Prisons

The European Union is releasing 2 million DH to financially support the Moroccan Prison Administration.
This support is part of the Support Program for the Reform of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR). The objective is to enable the Prison Administration to manage the impacts of Covid-19 in the kingdom’s penitentiary establishments.
The EU’s financial support will be used to acquire sanitary equipment, to counter the spread of the virus in prisons. The equipment will ensure the protection and prevention against the coronavirus for the workers of the Prison Administration. The inmates will also see their sanitary conditions improved, thanks to this support, in order to avoid contamination by the virus.
This Program also aims to support the DGAPR, with the objective of modernizing the governance of the prison system and strengthening the institutional and technical capacities of the actors. The strengthening of the impact of civil society and human rights institutions on the policies of social reintegration of prisoners and the prevention of recidivism are also of concern to the Program.
