Highway Attacks Escalate in Morocco: Top Official’s Car Targeted on Casablanca-Rabat Route

Insecurity on the highways continues to be a subject of debate in Morocco, particularly on the Casablanca-Rabat axis. The President of the House of Advisors and his chief of staff were victims but emerged unscathed, although their car suffered significant damage.
The car of the President of the Second Chamber, Naam Miyara, was recently attacked by individuals on the Casablanca-Rabat highway as he was returning to his home in Rabat, reports the daily Assabah. The car was the target of stone throwing by these strangers.

The President of the House of Advisors and his chief of staff who were with him in the vehicle are safe and sound. The vehicle, on the other hand, was seriously damaged, specifies the same source, which recalls that these incidents are frequent on this highway. In February 2018, the former President of the Fez-Meknes Region and Secretary General of the Popular Movement (MP), Mohand Laenser, had also been a victim of this stone throwing attack while returning from Rabat. He and his driver had emerged unscathed.

The "phenomenon" of stoning vehicles on this highway, especially at night, is increasingly worrying users. Several cases of these stone throwing attacks have been reported by the media. According to the managers of Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM), about thirty cases are recorded each year over the past three years, out of a total traffic of more than 400,000 travelers per year.
