DGSN Debunks Viral Video of Highway Crime, Arrests Suspect for Spreading Misinformation

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) acted "with great seriousness" regarding a video posted on social media showing individuals setting up roadblocks on a highway. The comment accompanying the video suggests that it is a criminal network that exposes highway users Casablanca-Marrakech to theft.
The technical expertise revealed that this video was filmed in July 2016 on a ring road in a city in northern France, before being subjected to editing and the insertion of sound effects in Amazigh to make it appear that incidents occurred in Morocco, the DGSN said in a statement.
The technical research and investigations led to the arrest of an individual in the city of Tiznit for alleged involvement in the dissemination of this falsified content, which could undermine the sense of security among citizens, the same source said.
Pending the resolution of this case, the suspect has been subjected to a judicial investigation.
