High-Profile Arrests in Rabat: Colonel’s Son Accused of Running Illegal Luxury Poker Ring

A brigade of the General Intelligence Service has just apprehended the son of a colonel as well as many of his (very wealthy) clients. He is being prosecuted under arrest, they are at liberty. This concerns an illegal poker game room.
In addition to the son of the senior officer, nine other people were apprehended during the raid. Most would reside in the upscale Rabat neighborhood of Bir Kacem. It would be a question of real estate developers, caterers, a former official in a sensitive position, and sons of former senior state officials.
According to Assabah, this police raid on this clandestine gambling hall was carried out at night and the arrested persons were then taken to the premises of the judicial police to complete the preliminary investigations concerning them, before releasing the clients and keeping the colonel’s son in custody for 48 hours.
At the first court hearing, the parking lot of the courthouse, on Avenue Madagascar, was reportedly cluttered with very luxurious vehicles. The colonel’s son was also released after paying a bail of... 20,000 dirhams.
Assabah also wonders why this arrest was not carried out by the police (but by the General Intelligence Service) when the clandestine gambling hall is located 70 meters from a police station. According to the same media, the colonel’s son has been engaged in this activity for 2 years.
