Heatwave Unleashes Insect Invasion in Mohammedia: Residents Demand Action as Authorities Lag

In this summer period marked by a heat wave, the city of Mohammedia is experiencing an invasion of mosquitoes, flies, and cockroaches, which are disturbing the tranquility of the residents.
In a statement to Al3omk, an environmental activist from the city explained that "the proliferation of insects in Mohammedia is a seasonal phenomenon that worsens with rising temperatures, due to the accumulation of waste and the proliferation of stagnant water, particularly in the working-class neighborhoods without liquid sanitation." The activist denounced the low reactivity of the local authorities to stem this phenomenon, which has reached alarming proportions this year.
"The laxity of the authorities in implementing proactive preventive campaigns, such as the spraying of insecticides and the cleaning of unhealthy breeding grounds, has contributed to the worsening of the situation this year, with a notable increase in the presence of insects in different areas of the city, which constitutes a danger to public health." According to the environmental activist, this situation "disturbs the tranquility of citizens and negatively affects the quality of life, especially in the absence of a serious and effective intervention by the competent authorities to fight this environmental scourge."
The same speaker also denounced the factories that discharge untreated wastewater into the environment, promoting the proliferation of insects. Faced with this situation, he called for the enforcement of environmental standards on these industrial units, urging the municipality to implement a clear action plan to combat insect invasions and preserve the health of the inhabitants.
