Heatwave Persists in Morocco as Thunderstorms Threaten Atlas Mountains

The National Meteorology Directorate (DMN) announced that the heatwave affecting the Souss, the northeast of the southern provinces, the southeast and the interior, will persist on Sunday, August 25, 2019.

According to the National Meteorology Directorate, unstable clouds with thunderstorms in places on the Atlas mountains, their surrounding regions, the southeast, the south of the Oriental and the north of the southern provinces and which may spill over to the Souss and Chiadma, are expected.

The weather forecast also indicates that there will be dense low clouds in the morning and at night with mist or fog near the coasts, rather numerous low clouds with occasional drizzle on the Mediterranean and quite frequent sand gusts in the southern provinces.

The sky will be slightly to occasionally cloudy in general elsewhere, while the wind will be moderate in the Tangier region and light to moderate in the rest of the country.

The minimum temperatures will be around 24-30°C on the Saïss, the phosphate and Oulmès plateaus, the plains west of the Atlas, the interior of Chiadma, the Souss and the southeast slopes. They will be 29-33°C in the southeast and north of the southern provinces and 19-23°C in the rest of the country.

On the other hand, the temperatures will be quite high with 24-29°C on the reliefs and near the coasts, 32-38°C on the Oriental, the Atlantic plains, the southeast slopes, 38-42°C on the phosphate and Oulmès plateaus, the Saïss, the Tadla, Rhamna, Tensift plains, the interior of Chiadma and the north and east of the southern provinces, and finally 42-45°C on the interior of the Souss and the extreme southeast.

The sea will be slightly choppy in the Mediterranean and slightly choppy to choppy in the Strait.
