Investigation Launched After Three Maternal Deaths at Casablanca Clinic

The Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Casablanca ordered on Monday the opening of an investigation after the death of three pregnant women during their deliveries in a private clinic, thus satisfying the request of the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights which had filed a complaint against the establishment.
The investigation should determine the causes of these three deaths that occurred successively in the same clinic, two of them on the same day. The heads of the maternity ward and the anesthesiologists of the establishment will have to be questioned as part of this investigation. The opening of the investigation follows the steps taken by the president of a human rights association, reports Assabah. After being contacted by the husband of one of the victims, the association filed a complaint with the Attorney General in which it reports these successive and similar deaths and requests the immediate and thorough opening of an investigation to determine the real causes of these deaths and hold accountable all persons who have shown negligence or are involved in this case.

According to the account of the husband who reported the facts to the association, his wife had been regularly followed by a gynecologist who had not detected any health problems throughout her pregnancy. Her medical tests, always normal, are proof of this. But the delivery does not go normally. Arrived early in the morning at the clinic, accompanied by members of her family, the pregnant woman enters the delivery room, undergoes a general anesthesia and never wakes up. She will be quickly transferred to the intensive care unit after the intervention. She dies during the day.
The medical staff is suspected of having long concealed the seriousness of the situation from the family. They claimed that the patient was doing well and that she would soon wake up. The family only learned of her death in the evening. Death officially attributed to "complications". According to the testimony of the deceased’s husband, another woman, who came to give birth the same day in this clinic, died under similar conditions. A previous death of a third woman in the same maternity ward of this private clinic in Casablanca has also been reported.
